After eight months, an agreement was made. Tommy Robertson, owner of Tommys Drum Shop in Austin, TX., learned of the status of Darwin Drums, and began negotiations to purchase the factory from Darwin. Corder then sold the company in 1990 to Sammy Darwin, a radio programming consultant, who operated the company under the name "Darwin" until early 1994. Then Martin sold the Fibes inventory and equipment to Jim Corder, who renamed the business "Corder Drum Company", while the "Fibes" trademark was sold to another party, who had a business agreement with Martin to distribute Fibes drum sticks. Subsecquently, all Fibes stock and workforce were moved to the Martin factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, while Garuso retaining control of the company. The Fibes company was eventually sold to guitar manufacturer C. The original Fibes Drums Company was located in South Farmingdale, New York and drums produced in that era bear the rectangular badge. Chrome plated Fibes snare drums have an appearance that closely matches that of conventional chrome plated metal snare drums made by other manufacturers.įibes drums, and particularly Fibes snare drums were used by Buddy Rich, who continued to use the Fibes snare even while an endorser of competing products. Fibes offered chrome plating on their fiberglass shells as well as a variety of other surface finishes. Fibes was a percussion instrument manufacturer notable for its pioneering use of fiberglass composites and transparent acrylic materials in the construction of drum shells. The SFT is more crisp and articulate than the MFT, and is recommeded for drummers playing Jazz, or Symphonic music.The company was founded in 1966 by Bob Grauso, a drummer, and John Morena, a drummer and composite materials professional. An adjustment bar inside the butt plate allows the vertical setting of the snares for proper on/off snare sound. It is not attached to the shell, but to the tension casings (lugs) on either side. The butt plate on the opposite side of the drum is just as unique as the SFT strainer. When playing a Fibes snare drum it is responsive in all areas of the head, from the outside edge to the center of the drum. This gives Fibes snare drums the sensitivity of a parallel action-style strainer, without the hassle of a sophisticated snare system. The wire snares, also made at our factory, are kept under constant tension regardless of the snares being switched on or off the drum head.

Their are no internal springs or cams to break or wear out. It is made in our own factory out of solid brass and other machined metal parts.

The Fibes SFT snare strainer, a design exclusive to Fibes, is the same original design that was conceived over 30 years ago.

Here is the info on the SFT snare from the Fibes website: It is widely known that Buddy Rich favored these drums for many years. Drum is in nice original condition and is part of an eastate so it has not been cleaned or touched since we received it. I have not seen enough of these drums to know if this is typical. The lug casings seem to be low profile and the tension rods are set at an angle but they are not inhibited in movement by thios. Copper wrap finish with 10 lugs SFT throw off functions very well with original wires. Very hard to come by complete and in great shape.
